Reemployment Assistance Benefits (Unemployment Compensation)
Connect to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Assistance Center to file a claim and manage your benefits
Reemployment Assistance or Reemployment Insurance (formerly referred to as Unemployment Compensation insurance) provides temporary wage benefits to qualified individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own. The Florida Legislature renamed the program in July 2012 to emphasize the job search activities and reemployment services offered by Florida’s workforce partners to jobless claimants receiving benefits. Florida is the first state in the nation to change Unemployment Compensation to Reemployment Assistance.
Workforce Connection staff members are not employed by Florida's Reemployment Assistance System and therefore cannot determine or offer opinions on eligibility for benefits. However, Workforce Connection can provide computer, Internet, phone and fax access so you may apply for and make inquiries about eligibility/receipt of reemployment assistance benefits. We also offer a variety of job seeker services to help meet your employment needs.
Three easy steps to file or manage your claim:
- Go to www.FloridaJobs.org
- At the Department of Economic Opportunity Home Page in the box with the Employ Florida logo, click on the link that says "FILE A REEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE CLAIM"
- The online system is available 24 hours, seven days a week; HOWEVER you may only claim your week Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There is also an automated telephone system that allows you to change your PIN or hear information about your claim. Hours are the same as for the online filing system listed above.
New Claims Reporting Days Now in Effect
Claimants whose social security number ends with an even number will be scheduled to report to claim the first compensable week on a Monday. Tuesday will be the scheduled report day for claimants with a social security number ending in an odd number. This will be the respective report days until the first compensable week is paid.
Claimants whose benefit years are effective prior to July 22, 2012, will remain on their previously scheduled report day of Monday or Tuesday.
Once the first compensable week is paid, all claimants with a new claim effective date of July 22, 2012 or later will have a new schedule to claim their subsequent weeks based on the last four digits of their social security number. The day of the week a claimant is to claim their subsequent weeks based on the last four digits of their SSN number will be:
0000-1999 Monday
2000-3999 Tuesday
4000-6999 Wednesday
7000-9999 Thursday
Please note that this change does not apply to claimants who filed any type of claim with an effective date prior to July 22, 2012. It only impacts new claims with an effective date of July 22, 2012 or later. If the claimant’s previous report date was on a Monday, it will remain on a Monday.
